Dr. Dee Edington, Ph.D.

Founder & Chairman, Edington Associates

Dee Edington, Ph.D is the Founder and Chairman of Edington Associates, LLC. He is the Founder and Professor of the University of Michigan Health Management Research Center and was the Director of the Center until June 2011. In addition to his research and teaching, Dr. Edington spent 25 years in academic administration. Trained in mathematics, kinesiology, and biochemistry, Dr. Edington received his B.S and Ph.D degrees from Michigan State University and completed his M.S. at Florida State University. He did post doctoral work at the University of Toronto and taught at the University of Massachusetts before coming to Michigan in 1976. Dr. Edington’s research focuses on the precursors of disease and vitality. His interest is in the relationships between healthy lifestyles, vitality, and quality of life, as they benefit both individuals and organizations. He is specifically interested in how individual health management, worksite wellness activities, and programs within organizations impact health care cost containment, productivity, and human resource development. He is the author or co-author of over 800 articles, presentations, and several books, including:

 Jane Ellery - PE

Dr. Jane Ellery, Ph.D.

Associate Director Fisher Institute for Wellness and Gerontology, Ball State University

Dr. Jane Ellery joined the faculty at the Fisher Institute for Wellness and Gerontology at Ball State University in August of 2003.  With experience in workplace wellness, managed care administration, workers compensations programming, community-based cardiac rehabilitation, and hospital-based cardiovascular diagnostics, Dr. Ellery serves as the Program Director for the Wellness Management graduate program. Dr. Ellery received her Ph.D. in Public Health from the University of South Florida and has served in many community-based health and wellness capacities.

Gregory Jacobs, FSA, MAAA

Consulting Actuary

Gregory Jacobs joined Milliman in 1977 as an actuary. He served as the company’s Equity Principal from 1988 until 2000 when he transitioned to Principal, a position he held until his retirement in 2003. Jacobs now works as an actuarial consultant assisting clients with strategic planning, product development, financial reporting and litigation support.  He is a frequent speaker and author on insurance issues within the insurance industry and actuarial forums. Jacobs graduated from the University of Illinois, Urbana-Champaign with a B.S. in Liberal Arts and Sciences with Highest Distinction in Actuarial Science.

Brenda Motheral, RPh, MBA, PhD

Co-founder & CEO, Archimedes

Brenda Motheral is a 20-year veteran of the pharmacy benefit management industry who has demonstrated relentless pursuit of healthcare innovation driven by data analytics and evidence-based medicine.  Currently, Dr. Motheral is the Co-Founder and CEO of Archimedes, a specialty drug management company that addresses the unprecedented increases in specialty spend through business intelligence, consultation, and technology-based solutions.

From 2011 to 2015, Dr. Motheral launched and led Artemetrx, a data analytics and consulting firm.  Dr. Motheral previously held executive positions at Healthways and Express Scripts, where she served as the Senior Vice President of Research and Product.  Dr. Motheral has published more than 50 peer-reviewed manuscripts, received several national research awards, and authored numerous seminal industry reports.

Dr. Motheral holds a PhD focused in Health Economics, a Master of Business Administration, and a Bachelor of Science in Pharmacy.

Dr. Dexter Shurney, MD, MBA, MPH

Chief Medical Director for Global Benefits, Health & Wellness, Cummins, Inc.

Dr. Dexter Shurney joined Cummins as the Chief Medical Director for Global Benefits, Health & Wellness in January of 2013.  He has an extensive background in health care management and policy, preventive medicine and wellness, disease management, and managed care administration/benefit design. Prior to joining Cummins, Dr. Shurney was the Chief Medical Director of the Employee Health Plan for Vanderbilt University and Medical Center. Shurney received his M.D. from Howard University College of Medicine, his M.B.A. in International Finance from the University of Detroit Mercy, and his M.P.H. Preventive Medicine/Public Health from the Medical College of Wisconsin.
